Diana Thompson
Diana Thompson has been a member of the firm since 2001. She is responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the firm. She heads up the Company's expanding licensing practice and has acted for many of the major off licence chains in Northern Ireland including Lidl, ASDA, Musgrave Retail Partners, Henderson Group and Wineflair. She has a particular interest in retail planning and has extensive experience in handling major projects including large housing, regeneration and other commercial schemes across Northern Ireland. She has also been involved in most of the Area Plan examinations where she acted for a range of developers and landowners. Diana is a past chairperson of the Northern Ireland branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Jenny Mawhinney
Jenny has been a planning consultant at MBA since 2007 and heads up the Company’s waste management and renewable energy section. She has considerable experience handling many major planning applications and appeals involving a wide range of waste and renewables projects. Her experience in this sector has resulted in in-depth knowledge of environmental assessment and licensing regimes. She acts for many of the major companies involved in the waste and renewable industry including Full Circle Power Ltd, NWP Recycling Ltd, Riverridge Recycling Ltd, Tipco NI Ltd and Tyrone Energy Ltd. Jenny was awarded Best Planner in the Action Renewables awards in 2012.
Dermot Monaghan
Dermot has been with the firm since 2009 and has significant experience in retail and waste planning as well as the core residential and commercial sectors. He has a keen interest in enforcement and has successfully defended clients in England and NI in a wide range of enforcement appeals including waste disposal, HMO and TPO cases. He also has considerable experience in providing expert planning evidence in Commercial Court cases. Dermot won the award of Top 10 Planner in the RTPI’s Assessment of Professional Competence in 2012.
